Technical Director

A Technical Director at Tiller is responsible for helping us in two key ways: (1) Continuously build and improve the technical aspects of Tiller’s systems, processes, and services; and (2) Work with prospects, customers, and our team to deliver high-quality solutions that meet and even exceed business objectives.

What you get to do:
  • Provide support and guidance to Sales, Account Managers, and Project Managers as they gather technical requirements for both prospects and existing customers and then communicate potential solutions
  • Research potential solutions, collaborate with developers, prepare a summary of proposed solutions, and help estimate the effort required to deliver
  • Work with our team to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of customer solutions
  • Work closely with our development team, SEO team, and Project Managers around QA planning throughout the project lifecycle, pre-launch, and post-launch
  • Plan, create, and manage overall QA test plans for each site and web app
  • Work with our Project Management team to ensure the smooth and successful launch of customer solutions
  • Provide leadership to our technical team as it relates to helping them solve technical problems as they emerge (ability to read/review code will be needed), creating and communicating changes in technical processes, communicating the specifics of an architected solution so that it can be actioned by our developers, etc.
  • Consistently identify, record, and document all technical issues per project to proactively optimize processes for future mitigation
  • Review, audit, improve, and document our existing development processes (e.g. staging/production environments, toolsets, branch strategy, manual QA, automated QA, etc)
  • Provide support as we hire and onboard new technical roles (e.g. development assessments, overseeing the technical aspect of onboarding such as training around our deployment processes and quality control, etc.)
  • Provide oversight to other technical matters such as security/cybersecurity, DevOps, our tech stack, documentation, etc.
  • Although the majority of this role focuses on providing technical leadership, evaluating and refining processes, architecting technical solutions, consulting, etc, there will be a need to write code from time to time
You may be a fit for this role if you:
  • Excel at translating technical solutions into business objectives (and vice versa) with clarity and confidence
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills (including presenting skills)
  • Are highly detail-orientated, organized, and thorough
  • Are a self-starter and are able to work independently with little guidance
  • Have a proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills
  • Have a positive can-do attitude, are resilient, and are able to work through issues and solve complex problems
  • Have a high aptitude for understanding technical matters, making hypotheses, conducting research, identifying patterns and opportunities, and tying your findings together into clear, actionable recommendations and solutions
  • Have a background in business – enabling you to understand and relate to the business objectives our customers seek to solve
  • Are a strong team player who will inspire others to contribute and collaborate
  • Value continuous improvement – for yourself and your teammates
  • Have a strong work ethic and care deeply about the results of your work
  • Have watched “The Office” TV show – we reference it often
